About Us

Four Members of the Great Bridge Chapter

Welcome to the Great Bridge Chapter, NSDAR! As a part of the Hampton Roads community for over 125 years, our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and interests that help keep our chapter evergreen. Our projects include supporting active-duty military and veterans, educational initiatives like Constitution Week, and preserving the memory of our past, such as our annual commemoration of the Battle of Great Bridge for which our chapter is named.

Our chapter meets in Norfolk, the first Thursday of the month, September through May, and holds special events and programs in the evening and weekends. We meet both in-person and virtually. You can see upcoming events on our calendar. We would love to have you join us!

Our History

The Great Bridge Chapter, NSDAR, is the oldest chapter in the Hampton Roads area, organized in 1894. We take our name from the Battle of Great Bridge, the first land battle of the American Revolution fought in the South against the British, which took place on December 9, 1775, twelve miles from Norfolk, Virginia.
